It takes Great Effort to be Effortless

Team Body Firm~

Sometimes a reoccurring theme or saying comes my way, day after day, several times a day; for a couple of weeks like a neon sign I need to pay attention to!

This past week + it has been...”it takes great effort, for something to become effortless”.

How often do we look at the successful business person wishing we had it that easy?  You watch them having a long lunch, enjoying weekend getaways with friends and family and you wonder “why they have it so easy…why isn’t my life that easy”?  What we might not realize is that for the first 10 years of their career they worked 12+ hour days, 6 days a week and had no social life just to get their foot in the door.  Or the times they had to decline weekend retreats in order to save money.    You see, they put in a great deal of effort, so now  their life might be a little more effortless.

How about the person who seems to have so many friends and be in the “perfect relationship”; yet what you may not know is this person has spent thoughtful hours understanding relationship dynamics, surviving heart breaks, learning from them and being open to new ideas and opinions.  This person’s willingness to put great effort into their encounters has reaped many effortless friendships.

Then there’s the person who is fit, strong and lean.  You might think “they have great genetics” or “they have so much more time on their hands to workout, no wonder they are fit”…  But what we haven’t seen is for years, these fit folks would decline nights out in order to grocery shop for the week’s healthy foods and get their workouts in.  These folks would get up out of bed when they were sore in order to stretch and get their bodies ready.  They put in great effort so now their routines are seamless and a little more effortless.

Right now I am in the middle of a “no desserts/sweets challenge” until January 2nd 2014.  This is my 6th year of doing this.  There are about 50 or so others doing this along with me.  Some are going through the day after Thanksgiving, some the day after Christmas and some along with me until January 2nd.  I started doing this because I for one was addicted to sugar and I felt less than stellar; and the Holidays were especially tempting.  I found myself tempted constantly and ate more sugar than what felt good or was healthy for me.   So, I took on the challenge and invited anyone to ride along.  Most people thought I was crazy.  I admit, the first 2 years were hard and I got grumpy and thought of devious ways I could cheat!  Finally, in year 3, it became easier and I looked forward to it.  In year 4, I made it to March without sweets and in year 5, all the way through May.  It wasn’t that I wanted to torture myself…I just found that without desserts as a main focus in my life I made much better choices in my diet and felt so much better.  I actually enjoy not having desserts!  (shocking, I know!) My family history is one with diabetes and it is one I want and will avoid.  You see, all of my effort I put in to resist sweets is now effortless.  (note…I lived on sugar until my early 30’s!)  This is my battle, or was, but as someone might watch me eat healthy and say “no thanks” to desserts now, it seems as though it’s so easy for me…and it is most of the time…but not without great effort several years back.    I still have desserts occasionally and love them in those random times…but the sugar no longer controls me.

We all have those one or two “things” which seem to overwhelm us and we wish is was easy to change.  I propose the question to ask yourself is “are you putting in effort so that one day this can be effortless”?  What have others done who seem to have a handle on this issue and how did it become effortless to them?

Take some time to really look at what you might be struggling through and see if there’s  a way through your own effort you can eventually create a non issue with this and live in ease and effortlessness!

Manny Swan

mannyManny Swan, A.C.E., Pro Norba/USCF Racer
Manny started his journey into the extreme ( but fun) physical world of pain by competing in the Pro-am level cyclo-cross racing 15 years ago, preceded by half a decade as a semi-pro Norba ranked MTB cyclist.Although studying full time for a physical therapy degree, Manny turned his focus away from the P.T. degree and went head over heels into personal fitness training. Following his newfound love for intense training and competitive workouts based on Clark’s experience and other firsthand experience with other cycling coaches, Manny became ACE certified early in 1994.

And although the field of fitness ‘technology’ continues to evolve towards the idea of making fitness instruction more effective, and sometimes scientific, Manny understands each client from the inside out, making the best decisions in training for the client; allowing only success for a happy, healthy lifestyle, free of pain and injury, for years to come. Whether you want to throw down a huge “air raley” behind your wakeboard boat, or just cross the wake of life without feeling short of breath……Manny will help you make your fitness and lifestyle desires a reality.

Justin Kerley

justinJustin Kerley
Hi there, my name is Justin Kerley and I have been in the health and fitness industry since 2005. I grew up playing sports as a kid. I wrestled and played football throughout my high school career at Archbishop MItty, and continue to make a part time career out of Professional Wrestling where I have been fortunate enough to wrestle for WWE on several occasions. Being brought up in a world of sports taught me that injuries do happen, but there is a lot we can do to help prevent them. Contact injuries are something you can’t train for, however injuries such as pulled muscles and sprains are something that we can prevent. Whether you’re in the wrestling ring or walking the dogs, we are always at risk of being injured but with the right applied knowledge, none of us should experience these “everday” injuries. I believe that waking up with body pain and hurting from daily activities can, and should be a thing of the past. My goal is to give as much knowledge, to as many people, as I can. My goal is to make people aware of a style of training that will benefit their lives and not just make them look good on the beach. My goal is to help and change as many lives, in a positive manner, as I can. My goal is to live a healthy, positive, stress-free life, and to bring you with me.“Keep Calm and Exercise On”

Shaelenn’s passion for fitness began when she was 3 years old and put on her very first pair of dance shoes. From her very first dace class she was hooked. Once her dancing shoes were on her feet they never came off. She wore them everywhere, never missing a chance to dance in front of an audience or even no one at all. With an extensive background in jazz and ballet, her life in the fitness world began to blossom. She used her knowledge of fitness to work as a personal trainer putting herself through college. Upon graduating she has now been able to devote all of her time learning new training styles and techniques to give her clients the most challenging workouts possible. Because of her dance background she tends to train her clients with more of an emphasis on Pilates, core strength, balance and cardio. She is known around the gym as the “Abs Queen” and the ruler of all the abs exercises. So if great abs and having fun while you train are what you want, then this is the girl who can get you the results you are looking for.
